New Year, New Book!

Our book for January, and our first of 2015, is Michael Faber's strange, hypnotic Under the Skin. Recently made into a film starring Scarlett Johansson, this book tells the story of an odd woman named Isserly who stalks the roads of Scotland looking for men.

Dancing in September?

September's book will be Tom Perrotta's The Leftovers. The novel is the inspiration for the current HBO series of the same name. The story focuses on the inhabitants of a small town in New York who are trying to figure out life after a Rapture-like event.

August Already

Hard to believe we are already planning August's meeting, but here we are. The last month has flown by, largely due to the World Cup obsession that has been growing, but summer is almost in that winding down stage!!

We will close out summer with The Shining Girls by Lauren Buekes, a thriller with elements of fantasy, a strong female protagonist, and a cruel killer at it's center. Very, very readable.

Here is Lauren's website.

Meet up Thursday August 14th at 7pm!

Summer is Coming

July's book will be Save Yourself by Kelly Braffet. Trust me when I say this book will surprise you. It has elements straight out of YA, but also brings in family drama, tortured romance, crime thriller aspects, and much more. A fast, addictive read.

We will meet up on July 10th at 7pm.

Haverhill READS 2014

This May brings Haverhill READS, a chance for the city of Haverhill to share in one book. Our patrons voted this fall and chose Joe Hill's bestseller NOS4A2. The book is creepy and totally readable, very hard to put down. Partially set in Haverhill, NOS4A2 will no doubt inspire some great book discussion.  The weeks of May 12th and 19th we have some great tie-in programming. Please come!

Spring Spring Spring!

April's meeting of Get Lit will be on the 10th. We are reading The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht. A well received debut from a young author, The Tiger's Wife tells the complicated story of the former Yugoslavia in different time periods, from different narrators. Here is the NYT Book Review: here
